There are all sorts of problems we parents encounter while taking care of our kids, from niggling little things to big serious ones, even problems that no one knew about when we were kids.

While you are creating Easter Baskets for your children, consider starting a new tradition of making them healthy and fun, something to get the kids outside playing rather than sitting inside eating candy. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Flashlight and equipment to explore outside, such as the GO Belt or light: night
Sand tools for the sand box and beach, including sun glasses to keep their eyes safe.
Fairy Houses book to build your own fairy house
Yo-yos
Jump ropes

Bicycle accessories, such as lights, mirrors, bells, streamers, grippers
Playing cards
Stuffed Animals
Books, like Story in a Box
Toy accessories, such as Barbie or GI Joe costumes

But, don't leave the candy out entirely! Here are a few ideas to make your sweets selections better for your children:

Hollow rather than solid chocolates
Malted rather than cream-filled
Natural or organic (Newman and other brands) that do not include trans-fats

     I know I can't use bug repellants containing DEET on my baby, but how can I keep mosquitoes carrying the West Nile Virus away?
